PLANS ROOM
A plans room is maintained on the first floor of the chapter building in Austin. The room is made available on a 24-hour basis upon request. Current plans are available for Corps of Engineers, federal, state, city and county projects. Plan rooms are also maintained in the Dallas, Houston and San Antonio field offices.
PUBLICATIONS
Bulletin: Members will receive bi-weekly bulletins containing the latest proposed or adopted regulations affecting the industry as well as other important information.
Special Bulletin: Any major development affecting the industry that should have immediate attention is included in Special Bulletins. Often, these publications are used to provide a detailed analysis of complex regulations.
Magazine: The chapter's magazine, Infrastructure, features articles and information of interest to the construction industry in Texas. The magazine is published bi-monthly with a special Trade Show issue prior to the event. County and state tate. The purpose of these meetings is to keep members informed of TxDOT activities and discuss mutual industry concerns.
CONTRACT DOCUMENT REVIEW
The chapter reviews and recommends changes to contract documents with the Texas Department of Transportation, city, county, and other political subdivisions.
MEMBERSHIP LUNCHEON
The chapter sponsors a membership luncheon each month during the highway letting in Austin. There is a guest speaker to discuss items of interest to the construction industry.
WAGE RATE INFORMATION
In an attempt to determine the prevailing wage rate for each of the 254 counties in Texas, a continuous survey is sponsored. Wage rate information is furnished to cities, counties, state agencies, consulting engineers and the U.S. Department of Labor to insure that the prevailing wage rate will be listed in contracts in compliance with the Davis-Bacon Act. When the Department of Labor issues erroneous decisions, the chapter files appropriate action for a reversal.
MANPOWER DEVELOPMENT & TRAINING
The chapter sponsors an On-Job-Training program which has been approved by all major state and federal awarding agencies. The program has the approval of the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs and the Secretary of Labor, and can be used on all state and federal projects to accomplish training and satisfy the requirements of Executive Order 11246 as amended. SAFETY
The chapter maintains an active Safety & Health Committee that supplies safety regulations for the membership that are published periodically. Pocket size safety manuals for both the employee and supervisor are available at a nominal fee. Spanish translation of the employee safety manual is also available. In addition, the chapter maintains a supply of safety videos for use by the members. Contact the chapter office for a list of videos at 512/478-4691.
EDUCATIONAL SEMINARS
With participation from private, state and federal agencies, educational seminars such as legal, contract compliance, crime prevention, safety, open shop, Davis-Bacon, metric, environmental, partnering and traffic control are provided for the membership.
LEGISLATIVE
AGC conducts a constant review of state and federal proposed legislation. When bills are introduced affecting any aspect of the construction industry, the chapter usually presents testimony or provides the affected agency with an analysis of the legislation. Members are provided with information advising them of pending legislation and its effect on the industry.
